Hi all,

I am having some SERIOUS issues with one of the local bears, actually the more serious issue is that my neighbor is feeling the bear, but I am dealing with that issue. I don't know why the bear comes up on my 2nd floor deck but he does, often, like several times a day. There is NO food or plants on the deck yet, but I want to put my upside-down tomato baskets and my flower pots out soon but I am sure the bear will destroy them!

Here is a picture of him taken (by my neighbor, "oh isn't he cute") at 7:15 this morning.

Would it be possible to run some kind of single strand electric fence/wire across the stairway??? There is an outlet on the deck if that helps?

Thanks,
Margie

That bear could become a danger very quickly. It seems to have lost its fear of humans and is now linking them to free easy food. Next thing he will be in your house. I would call the DNR and have them come out. They will most likely trap it and move it, but it may have to be destroyed as it could be a problem where ever it is taken. Good luck. Sam

Tamsam,

The DNR in Wisconsin (at least my part of the state) does not deal with problem bears, to make a report and have a problem bear trapped off your land you have to call the USDA office for the northern part of the state, can you believe that???

It is raining here now, but I have plans to try to run a single strand of electric fence at the bottom of the deck stairs.

And yes, having lived in bear country for many years now I completely understand that bears who get used to people can be a big problem...but my neighbor a relatively new transplant from Chicago who does not "get" it and she thinks this is all so CUTE!!

Call your Sheriff and tell them the bear charged you. You were afraid for your life. They should deal with it.

If not, call you local newspaper with the story.

How's the bear problem now? Still being a pest or has it moved on to greener forests?

I think the better question is " Is the stupid neighbor gone or is the bear?" :-D

He was here once this week, on their deck not mine!! I still don't have anything out on my deck, no flowers or tomatoes...nothing! They are moving but not until August 1. I am also hopefully moving to a house down the road...where I won't have to share yard space with more nut jobs!!
