I was just wondering if anyone else here has tethered jersey calves. I think it is working absolutely wonderfully! But.. of course the grass is greenest in the ditches and this is a busy road of sorts. Well its not busy like a city and its not a highway or anything. It is just a main route to a neighboring area and we do get a few semi's.
My question is, would tethering my calf to where he can get into the ditches be a problem? My husband said I should take advantage of that tall grass. Would people freak out if the calf was only 1 foot off the road? I have its water bucket and its obvious chain etc so they will know its not loose but if they aren't paying attention they won't know that just by driving by at 55-60 MPH. I drove by someones house the other day and they had two horses tethered out to get grass out of the ditch and that didn't bother me much but of course I am of a different mindset than the average driver.
So.. Should I allow the cow access to the ditch as long as I know there is absolutely no way it can swing its rear into the road? or how far should I keep it back?
